Dear CODEPINKer,
In 2012,
CODEPINK celebrated 10
years of creative resistance, and we end the year
stronger than ever. Anyone who saw us disrupt the NRA's sham of
a press conference after the tragic shootings in Newtown, Connecticut
knows that no
one speaks truth to power quite like CODEPINK.
Here
are some of the things we're most proud of accomplishing in 2012:
- CODEPINK
donated over $25k in medical supplies to Gaza.
- We
donated over $10k to families in need in NYC after Hurricane
Sandy via the Lower East Side Girls Club.
- We
delivered blankets to warm the bodies and hearts of our sisters
in Afghanistan.
- We
put war and economic injustice and women's reproductive rights and
corporate dollars in politics in the headlines via our creative
protests at the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.
- We
exposed the Israel Lobby and worked to prevent war on Iran with
our Occupy AIPAC conference and protests in DC, and we spoke
directly with Michelle Obama about the need for peace with Iran.
- We
demonstrated at NATO, at drone bases, at School of the
Americas, and other sites that needed a good dose of pink peace.
-
We held the first-ever international drone conference, launched
a successful tour for Medea's book, Drone Warfare: Killing
by Remote Control, and took an international delegation
to protest drones in Pakistan.
- We
busted up Bank of America by facing off to BofA's CEO, coordinating
bank actions and moving our money to more community-friendly financial
institutions; we also joined the Occupy Wall Street anniversary
& organized the feminist general assembly on Independence Day
weekend.
- We
exposed a prime time reality show on war which will NOT air again
on NBC.
- We
inspired Abigail Disney to disown her share of West Bank-occupying
cosmetics company, Ahava.
- We
joined in protests in Bahrain and supported jailed Qatari
poet Muhammad al-Ajami and the ongoing Arab Spring.
- We
joined the climate justice movement to prevent the Keystone XL
pipeline and connect the dots between war and oil.
-
We celebrated 10
years of powerful pink protest and held the first
anti-war demo at the White House post-election (to shrink the Pentagon).
