Our Hearts Break for Gaza

November 21, 2012

Dear Activist,

Watching the news from Gaza and communicating with our friends there is heartbreaking. How long must the people of Gaza suffer before our government demands that Israel stops dropping bombs on innocent people? We hear from President Obama and Congress about Israel's right to self-defense, but what about the rights of the Palestinian population in Gaza?

We are leaving for Gaza in a few days as part of an emergency delegation to bear witness to the violence, show our solidarity with the Palestinian people, and bring critical medical supplies to the Shifa Hospital. Won't you help? While $3 billion of our tax dollars are going to the Israeli government for killing, please make a donation to help keep Palestinians alive.

We also ask you to send a letter and make a call to Hillary Clinton (via the office of Special Envoy David Hale) at (202) 647-2026. Urge her to talk to all parties while she is in the Mideast, including Hamas, to pursue a long-term solution that entails lifting the inhumane siege of Gaza and ending the occupation of the West Bank.

We mourn the loss of all life - Palestinian and Israeli - and know that peace will come only with real justice that ensures human rights, dignity, freedom and equality for all.

Onward toward justice in the Middle East,
Ann Wright, Kathy Kelly, Medea Benjamin, Pam Bailey, Tighe Barry from the emergency delegation to Gaza

PS: On Black Friday, remind your friends to stop shopping for illegal Israeli settlement products Ahava and SodaStream, and spread our list of ways to take action: PDF | Facebook Graphic.

As you gather with your loved ones over the holiday this week, we hope you will take courage to talk about the bombing of Gaza (prep by reading this great piece - 10 Things You Need to Know about Gaza).
