Dear CODEPINKer,

Shocking. Jaw-dropping.  Unbelievable.  How else to describe the scene at the Democratic National Convention on Sept. 5th, when the  leadership pushed through a platform amendment declaring: "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel”?!

Three voice votes on the amendment, which undermines the hope of a Palestinian state, clearly showed it did not have the requisite two-thirds majority. But the party leadership lied and passed it anyway (see the vote here and watch Jon Stewart rip it apart here).

Why? Chalk it up to the power of the pro-occupation AIPAC lobby and other special interests. By contrast, a recent poll showed that Democrats by a nearly 2:1 margin believe that Jerusalem should be divided between Israelis and Palestinians. Join us to protest AIPAC's next policy summit in Boston, October 13-14th.

Monied interests are corrupting our whole political system, which is why CODEPINK protested at both conventions. We questioned Rep. Pelosi on the Jerusalem language and voiced our opposition to crippling sanctions on Iran.  We protested killer drone attacks and the ongoing occupation of Afghanistan.  And in Charlotte, dubbed Wall Street South, we busted up big banks with giant bra toss actions outside Bank of America HQs.  Hours before Obama gave his acceptance speech, we dropped a 40-foot pink banner that read: YES WE CAN END WAR

Next we're taking our powerful pink action team to New York City to mark the one-year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street.  Never has it been more essential to have a movement independent of the two-party system.
Educate, Celebrate, Resist!  Join us in NYC or in your own community this weekend, September 15-17th to act up for economic justice and democracy!  Sign up here.  Get creative action ideas here.

The power of the people is greater than the people in power.  Let's lead the way to real change!

Solidarity,
Alli, Ann, Edwina, Holly, Jodie, Josie, Karen, Katie, Laura, Medea, Nancy, Rae, Paul, Sam, Tighe and Wade
