Dear
CODEPINKer,
As
we observed Veteran's Day this week, our hearts ached as we thought
about the thousands of troops who have been killed in Iraq and the
many more who have returned home without adequate care for their
physical and psychological wounds. Real
support for our troops means bringing them home and caring for them
when they return. It also means holding accountable those
who sent them into this unjust war.
Thanks
to Dennis Kucinich, impeachment is back in the national conversation.
Earlier this month, Kucinich introduced H.Res
333/799, articles of impeachment against Vice President
Cheney, and asked for a floor vote. The gutless Democratic leadership,
instead of allowing a floor debate, moved the resolution to the
House Judiciary Committee where it is in serious danger of languishing
unless we speak up now.
Please
contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee (202)
225-3951 or by
email and insist that they launch hearings on H.Res 333/799
immediately after the Thanksgiving break.
And
let's show Speaker Nancy Pelosi that we want impeachment back on
the table. Over 12,000 of you have already signed our Impeach
Cheney petition. If you haven't signed it yet, please
do, and forward it to friends and family. We will hand deliver the
petition to Speaker Pelosi to help bolster our demand to move forward
with impeachment hearings.
To
learn more about Kucinich's bold move, take a look at our own Linda
Milazzo's article, "The
Courage of Kucinich in Pelosi's House of Wacks."
Thank
you for helping to hold our misleaders accountable! It is one way
to honor the Iraq veterans who have given so much to our country
and have received nothing but shoddy equipment, poor health care
and PTSD in return. And that's if they're lucky enough to stay alive.
For
peace and accountability,
Dana, Desiree, Farida, Gael, Gayle, Ileana,
Jodie, Medea, Nancy, Rae, and Samantha
P.S.
Your representative will be home for the next two weeks. Visit his
or her website
to learn what local events and town hall meetings your rep has scheduled.
Attend an event with the triple message: Stop funding the war in
Iraq; Diplomacy not war with Iran; and Restore our civil liberties!
P.P.S.Give
CODEPINK a vote! CREDO Action, previously called Working
Assets, a progressive phone and credit card company and activist
network, donates a portion of its proceeds to worthy causes. They
are asking members to choose how to allocate their donations this
year, and CODEPINK was selected as
one of this year's beneficiaries. You can choose to allocate up
to 100 points to the organization of your choice--we would be thrilled
for your support; the more funds we receive, the wider our reach
can be. If you are already a CREDO Action member, you can vote for
us here
(and if you're not a member yet you can sign
up here).
This
Week's Pledge to Speak Up for Peace!
Have
you signed our November pledge to Speak Up for Peace?
If not, please
sign up now--we'll send you a simple action to
do each week to use your voice to end war.
This week, we are standing in solidarity with our sister and
brother activists who have been silenced and imprisoned in
Pakistan. Download
our "We will not be silent" pendant,
which you can print, laminate and wear as a necklace, and/or
order one of our "We will not be
silent" tee shirts, available in several styles:
Arabic
unisex, Arabic
woman, Spanish
unisex, and Spanish
woman. When someone asks you about the pendant
or tee shirt, tell them you will continue to speak out for
freedom of expression, for civil and human rights, for peace.
Tell them you will continue to give voice to those who are
silenced by tyranny and war.
To
educate yourself further about the situation in Pakistan,
please read:
Send
pictures and videos of yourself in your pendant and/or shirt
to locals@codepinkalert.org
and tell us how you are speaking up for peace. Please circulate
this action widely; remember--the person who signs up the
most friends and family this month will win a one-week trip
to be with CODEPINK in DC!
