Dear
CODEPINKer,
Just
two weeks ago, we asked you to help us get rid of Gonzales--now,
to our immense relief and delight, he has decided to step down.
That's three down, two more to go!
CODEPINK
has been at the forefront of the movement to oust Gonzales--we have
been outside the Department of Justice every Monday and Friday calling
for his resignation since May (watch our YouTube here)
and have been a visible presence at his hearings (you can see our
favorite hearing photo in the New York Times' slide show of Gonzales'
tenure here
and a video of our raucous send-off in the hearing room here)
Thank you for helping us keep the pressure on Washington; our demand
for truth and accountability is finally being heard.
Let's
use all this celebratory energy and momentum to continue to make
a difference. First of all, we need to make sure Bush doesn't replace
Gonzales with someone just as bad (or even worse, if that's humanly--or
inhumanly--possible!) Read
Glen Greenwald's important piece on the Democrats' responsibility
in the wake of Gonzales' resignation and rest assured that we will
be ready to take action if Bush tries to pull any funny business.
Until then, Cheney is next on our checklist; click
here to send him a well-deserved pink
slip.
With
Congress reconvening next week, we're gathering forces for
a powerful month of actions to tell Congress to restore our civil
liberties, hold Bush and Cheney accountable, and get us out of Iraq!
Come join CODEPINK and add your vital
presence to our creative actions--click
here to see our schedule and sign up to join us. Now
that so many of Bush's cronies are jumping ship, it's
time to force Congress to change course.
Thank
you for continuing to bring your voice and your passion for peace
to CODEPINK.
With
celebration and determination,
Dana, Desiree, Farida, Gael, Gayle, Jodie, Karin,
Liz, Medea, Nancy, Pamela, Patricia, Rae, Samantha, and Vanessa
P.S.You've
given peace a vote, now give CODEPINK a vote! Working
Assets, a progressive phone and credit card company and activist
network, donates a portion of its proceeds to worthy causes; right
now, they are asking members to choose how to allocate their donations
this year, they picked CODEPINK to
help out this year. You can choose to allocate up to 100 points
to the organization of your choice--we would be thrilled for your
support; the more funds we receive, the wider our reach can be.
If you are already a Working Assets member, you can vote for us
here (and if you're not a member yet, please join up, they are a
fabulous activist organization, you can also sign
up here). Voting ends August 31st.
P.P.S.Our first book club discussion is this Thursday,
August 30th, at 5:30pm PST/8:30pmEST. To find out how to
