The
past month of living at the CODEPINK
house in D.C. and doing daily actions on Capitol Hill
has been extraordinary. When Senate and House staffers followed
us to the cafeteria to thank us for speaking truth to power,
all questions about our effectiveness were quelled. When we
were met on the street and in restaurants and in hallways
with smiles and "thumbs up," we were encouraged
to continue. The ground we have gained in the halls of congress
must be maintained. I know that I, for one, will be back in
March!

Being
in the House Gallery last week felt historic- not because
Congress was debating a non-binding resolution, but because
we saw evidence that the anti-war movement has changed the
terms of the debate! It certainly seems like a step, a fragile
baby step - but if we keep the pressure on, we will give more
of our representatives the courage they need to really stand
up against Bush and this dreadful war.

Dear CODEPINKER,
For
the month of February, CODEPINK rented
a house right near the Capitol. Every day, a determined group of
pink-clad women trudged over to Congress,
through the ice and snow, to pressure our representatives.
We
spoke out at hearings of the Armed Services, the Foreign Relations,
and the Judiciary Committees. On Valentine's Day we delivered broken
hearts to every Senate office, asking the Senators to support Russ
Feingold's bill to stop funding the war. As part of our
national Occupation Project, we took over the offices
of Senators John McCain and Hillary Clinton, resulting in 16 arrests.
We turned the lobby of the Senate Hart Building into a sea of pink.
We organized a "Hug-in" at a weapons fair in Congress,
wearing smocks saying "Arms Are For Hugging" and giving
hugs to the soldiers, staffers and even the police standing ready
to arrest us.
We've
been featured in the Washington
Post and even on Fox News. But best of all, our work
convinced 11 new representatives to sign onto Rep. Lynn Woolsey's
Bring the Troops Home and Iraq Sovereignty Restoration Act (H.R.
508)! Several presidential candidates have been forced to move towards
clearer anti-war positions.
We're
ready to continue our work in Washington DC, renting a house for
March, April and May, but we need your help.

In
the next few months, Congress will be addressing life and death
issues for our soldiers and the people of Iraq. And we need to prevent
a war with Iran. With your help, CODEPINK
will be out front demanding that those in power start listening
to the people!
