Keep the pressure on Congress to oppose US military intervention!

Rep Alan Grayson (D-FL) stopped by our DC vigil to oppose US strikes on Syria. Our 24/7 encamp

September 11, 2013

Dear Activist,

We did it! The American people prevented a war––at least for the moment!
After hearing the President's speech last night, we are so incredibly proud of each one of you who called and wrote to your Representatives, organized or attended vigils, and took action in your communities. We also want to thank those who helped us maintain a 24/7 peace camp outside Congress! Our collective voice of opposition pressured President Obama to go to Congress where his call for war hit a dead end and gave time for the Russians to propose a solution. Thank you for your work for peace!

We must remain vigilant, as there are calls in Congress to automatically authorize force if the US decides that Syria is not complying––a call we must reject. The issue of compliance and punishment must be decided by the international community, not the US alone. So keep the pressure on!

Also, the situation remains dire for the Syrian people caught in the midst of war. Now that international attention is focused on Syria, we must push for an arms embargo, a ceasefire and a political settlement.

And let us not forget the over 2 million refugees who are enduring all forms of suffering, including rape. Most rapes happen at night when the refugee camps are pitch black, so CODEPINK and MADRE have teamed up to send solar lamps to Syria.

Help us support these women.

A delegation of midwives and activists will be delivering these lanterns and other vital support to women in the camps, and your contribution is urgently needed.

Please help provide a light in the lives of Syrian women and girls. You can make a difference. Make a donation today!

This is truly an historical moment when our collective opposition stopped the US bombs from flying and laid the political groundwork for the Russians to step in with their proposal. Let us savor the moment, and may it fortify us for the tasks ahead.

With gratitude,
