5 Ways to Stand with Ferguson

CODEPINK

August 23, 2014

Dear Activist,

Are you still outraged by the police violence in Ferguson? We are. We’ve been working in solidarity with the people organizing in Ferguson, opposing police brutality and the militarization of law enforcement agencies. Here are some upcoming actions and ways you can help:

Monday, August 25 at 10am is the funeral for Mike Brown, the young man whose death inspired the worldwide outcry against police brutality. During his funeral, show solidarity by tweeting using #RIPMikeBrown and #Ferguson (follow us at @CODEPINK to get the livestream link on Monday).

Tuesday, August 26 at 5pm (local times) is a day of action at Federal Buildings and Embassies/Consulates worldwide. Check out the website www.HandsUpUnited.org to see what actions are happening near you.

If you haven't already, sign our petition to Department of Defense Chuck Hagel and Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson calling on them to stop giving military equipment to law enforcement agencies.

Check out CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin’s latest article about the militarization of American police forces, Beware of Exploding Gifts from Uncle Sam.

We’re launching a campaign to demilitarize the police by activating our grassroots networks (and creating news ones!) to pass local resolutions in communities throughout the US. We’re excited to announce that we’ve added Nathan Sheard from New York City to our team to run this campaign. If you would like to work on passing a resolution in your community or have other ideas we should work on, email Nathan at Demilitarize@codepink.org.

Join us in condemning the profiling of black youth across the country and in calling for an end to turning our cities into warzones. Enough is enough, no more wars abroad and wars on our communities!

In solidarity,
Alli, Anastasia, Holly, Jodie, Janet, Jes, Medea, Nada, Nancy, Sophia, and Tighe
