A Moving Plea from Guantanamo

CODEPINK

January 11, 2014

Dear Activist,

Today marks 12 years since the prison at Guantanamo was opened. Please take a moment to remember the 155 prisoners who still remain by reading and sharing this moving piece by current prisoner Shaker Aamer.

"I arrived in Guantanamo on February 14, 2002, the day my youngest child Faris was born. Those twelve years are lost to me forever. What I have missed most has been the opportunity to do my part to fill up my four children’s reservoir of love. The early years of a child’s life is a parent’s best chance to show them what love is, before they become more distant with approaching adulthood. Losing this, my opportunity and obligation, is my greatest regret." (Full text here.)

Get out Shaker's message by sharing the full text of his statement now. You can also check out the CODEPINK website to find other ways to say "NO!" to Gitmo. President Obama has said repeatedly he wants to close Guantanamo. Let's make 2014 the year he fulfills his promise!
