In
the wake of last week's historic and thrilling election, author
and CODEPINK comrade Alice Walker shared
these wise words on Democracy
Now.
"I
think war is so incredibly backward,
and I don't think it's intelligent, and it's not sane. When I think
of Obama leading us, I think that we elected someone who can actually
have the humility to follow us, which is to say that the world is
turning away from militarism. We're sick of it. We are absolutely
sick of starving children, raped women, abused populations. We are
totally disgusted. And we have the power,
really, to say, 'No more.'"
CODEPINK
is turning Alice's rousing sentiment into our
new War is SO Over campaign, bringing the message YES
WE CAN End War to gatherings and rallies around the country.

This
Wednesday, CODEPINK joined The Yes
Men to announce War is SO Over, distributing over a
million parody copies of the New York Times
that reported the end of war and other progressive triumphs such
as a national health care system and a cap on CEO's salaries. View

the pdf. As one of the newspaper's writers said, "We've
got to make sure Obama and all the other Democrats do what we elected
them to do. After eight years of hell, we need to start imagining
heaven."
In
DC this Thursday, citizen diplomats from CODEPINK
took the lead in shaping the policies we want to see from the Obama
administration and delivered apple pie, flowers and cards to the
Cuban, Syrian, Venezuelan, Bolivian and Iranian embassies to declare
"YES WE CAN Live in Peace."
