Dear
CODEPINKer,
While
George Bush has been touring through Europe, beating the drums for
war with Iran, CODEPINK has been creating
-- city by city -- a groundswell of support for peace. Thanks to
our initiative, the U.S.
Conference of Mayors,
which is holding its annual meeting from June 20-24 in Miami, Florida,
will vote on a critical and timely resolution urging
the Bush Administration to pursue diplomatic engagement with Iran.
The resolution also asks Congress to prohibit the use of funds to
carry out military action against Iran without explicit Congressional
authorization. We are delighted to report that 20
mayorshave
cosponsored the resolution so far.
Click
here to see if your mayor is a cosponsor. If so, please
thank him/her. If not, please ask your Mayor to sign on to the resolution.
Click

and scroll
below this page for a sample letter and the full text
of the resolution. Ask your mayor to send notice of his/her support
to Nancy Mancias at Global Exchange (nancy@globalexchange.org
or 415-575-5543). Peace can begin in your home town!
While
we're working to stop the next war now, we must remember the innocent
victims of the war on Iraq, millions of whom have had to flee their
own home towns.
The U.S. invasion of Iraq has led to the most massive refugee crisis
in the world today. We give our sincerest thanks to those of you
who, on Mothers and Fathers Day, paid tribute to Iraqi parents by
donating to our Refugee Fund. The
tens of thousands of dollars we've raised together have funded
food rations for the hungry, schooling for refugee children, and
job training and business supplies for displaced Iraqi women and
men. If you would like to donate now, please click
here.
Dozens
of important representatives from women's organizations have signed
our letter calling for the US and UN to allocate greater
funds for refugees. We will deliver
this petition to the UN on Friday, June 20th, World Refugee Day.
Won't you add your name to the growing chorus of people
calling on the US and global community to show compassion for displaced
Iraqis?
Thank
you for raising your voices for peace and justice,
Alicia, Dana, Deidra, Desiree, Farida, Gael,
Gayle, Jodie, Liz, Lori, Medea, Nancy, Rae, Sarah and Tighe
