November 1, 2005

Dear CODEPINK Supporter,

Last week we mourned the great loss of the 2,000 US soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians, casualties of our country's illegal war in Iraq. We also mourned the loss of a great leader, Rosa Parks, who stood up against injustice and inspired a new generation of activists.

Today, a generation of activists, shaped by the Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam War, are being joined by students at colleges and high schools, who are demanding the chance to grow up in a peaceful world. Let's help build the youth peace movement now!

Here's how you can get involved:

  • Youth and Students: Learn how to get active against the war by signing up to receive our new youth alert.

  • Campus CODEPINK: Campus CODEPINK chapters are popping up around the country, from UCLA to the University of Maryland at College Park. Check out our new Campus CODEPINK website. Check back often for organizing ideas. To start a campus group, email Rae at rae@codepinkalert.org.

  • Not Your Soldier: This November 17th, on International Students Day, CODEPINK is calling on young women around the country to take action against military recruitment and provide their peers with peaceful alternatives. Check out our CODEPINK Student Actions webpage for fun action ideas and a counter-recruitment 101 guide. Although November 17th is a youth day of action, adult support is appreciated. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with young female activists in your community!

  • Pink Slip the Military Recruiters: This November 18th, the National Call for Nonviolent Resistance and CODEPINK are calling for a nationwide day of protest at military recruiting stations to halt the war machine. For more information, see our website. Find out military recruitment data for your area at National Priorities.

  • Be an Ally: Encourage your daughters, granddaughters, nieces, and other young women in your life to get involved with CODEPINK and student activism on their campuses. For suggestions on how to work more effectively with youth, visit our adult allies site.

  • Support the Work of Young Women Activists: Many of the CODEPINK staff are students or recent graduates struggling to support themselves while doing this inspiring work. Your contributions make our work possible! Make a donation today.

War is not inevitable for future generations. Positive alternatives do exist. Please join us as we say NO the war in Iraq, NO to the recruitment of our fellow Americans, and YES to the next generation of young female activists!

Recruiting for peace,
Dana, Emily, Farida, Gael, Jen, Jodie, Medea, Nancy, Rae, Sam & Tiffany

P.S. Join CODEPINK on November 18-20 in Ft. Benning, Georgia to protest the School of the Americas (SOA), a facility that has trained over 60,000 Latin American and Middle Eastern soldiers to wage war against their own people for over 60 years. Please contact Emily for more info at emilys@codepinkalert.org or (607) 227-9731. For detailed information about the history of School of the Americas and the nationwide call to shut it down, visit SOA Watch website.
