Dear
CODEPINKer,
As
a former diplomat and member of the State Department, I was heartened
to see that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is planning a trip
to Israel and the West Bank soon. Please ask your senators to encourage
her to use it to underscore her, and the Obama administration's,
commitment to working toward Israel-Palestinian peace. Click
here to urge your senators to take this step toward promoting
Middle Eastern peace and addressing the dire humanitarian crisis
in Gaza.
When
CODEPINK asked you to donate $10 to
send a gift basket to a woman in Gaza last week, they weren't
prepared for the overwhelming response.
Thanks to your stunning generosity, our International Women's
Day delegation will be able to bring over
2,000 baskets with us for the women of Gaza. We have room
for more--click
here to donate a gift basket full of vitamins, first
aid supplies, chocolate and other essentials and treats.
I
traveled to Gaza a few weeks ago, and was moved by the profound
strength and resilience of the women there. One woman I met,
Izbet Abed Rabu, lived in a tent with her husband and 5 children
after their two story home had been flattened into rubble. Even
though her children's school had been destroyed and they had
to brave 40 degree temperatures at night, Izbet considered herself
and her family lucky; her neighbors on either side had each lost
three family members.
I know Izbet and other women like her will
be so grateful to receive your baskets and support.
You can also help the women of Gaza from your own backyard (or your
own dining room) by hosting a house party to raise funds and awareness.
Women around the country are creating evenings filled with food,
music, poetry and information to educate friends and family about
the often misunderstood crisis in Gaza. Many groups are creating
handmade cards and crafts to add a personal touch to our gift baskets
to Gaza (send your personal touch to 712 5th Street NE, Washington,
DC 20002). Click
here to see if there are any events planned in your area
and click
here to list your own.
When
I return to Gaza with Medea, Gael Murphy, author Alice Walker, and
other amazing people from around the globe March 5-12, I will be
honored to carry your baskets and solidarity with me.
Thank you for speaking out and giving from your heart to help the
women of Gaza and bring peace to the Middle East.
With
peace and hope, Colonel
(Retired) Ann Wright
