On
January 9, CODEPINK
cofounders Medea Benjamin and Jodie Evans lead a 15-person delegation
to Guantanamo. The delegation included
family members of detainees, former detainees, detainee
Omar Deghayes's brother and mother,
constitutional lawyers and US peace activists including Cindy Sheehan
and Colonel Ann Wright.
On
January 11-- the International Day to Shut Down Guantanamo -- CODEPINK
and other groups participated in protests around the country, in Cuba,
and around the world to call for the closing of Guantanamo. CODEPINK
will continue to call for fair trials and to lobby congress to overturn
the Military Commissions Act and restore Habeas Corpus.
