Dear CODEPINKer,

For months we've been pressuring members of Congress to sign on to a petition calling for a full and inclusive debate about the war in Iraq. All we need are 96 more signatures for the debate to begin. We need your help TODAY.

Be among the thousands of Americans to call their Congress member
TODAY to demand a debate with an "open rule," meaning that any proposals to bring the troops home can be introduced, debated and voted on. The surest route to that debate is for them to sign the discharge petition (H. Res. 543) and ask their colleagues to do the same. Click here for more information about H. Res. 543.

Click here to find out if your representative has signed the discharge petition. You can check the House Clerk's site daily for new signatures.

Join in TODAY by calling the Congress switchboard at 202-224-3121 or find the number to your representative's local district office by clicking here.

Here's what you can say:

Message for NON-signers of H.Res. 543:

"As your constituent, I ask you to sign onto H.Res. 543, a "discharge petition" that calls for open and honest debate on Iraq and consideration of ALL alternatives to the policy of open-ended occupation of Iraq. I will not be satisfied with a limited debate that prohibits the introduction of real alternatives to the President's failed policy in Iraq. It is time to show strong leadership to bring peace in the region."

Message for signers of H.Res. 543:

"As your constituent, I want to thank you for signing H.Res. 543. So important is a full and honest debate and consideration of ALL alternatives to the policy of open-ended occupation of Iraq that I ask you to ask one of your colleagues, not already signed on, to sign H.Res. 543. This is one important step in building peace in Iraq and throughout the region."

Every call you make to your representative's office makes a difference, particularly as candidates prepare for the fall election. Save the Congressional switchboard number into your cell phone, or write it somewhere visible, and keep building relationships with Congressional staffers who are eager to hear the views of constituents --YOU!
