Take Action Now!

January 2, 2009

Dear CODEPINKer,

We enter 2009 with hearts both hopeful and heavy. The historic inauguration of Barack Obama ushers in a new era of possibilities. But we enter the new year with the worst relics of an old system run amok: the deadly bombardment of the Gaza strip, the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a global economic crisis that is plunging millions into deeper poverty.

It's up to us to make 2009 a year of solutions. Let's start now by making your re-solutions for the New Year. How about writing one letter to the editor a month, or joining a local CODEPINK group, forming a relationship with your Congressperson, reaching out to the Muslim community, working in a homeless shelter, donning a pink boa and taking to the streets?

Click here to send us your specific New Year's commitment to activism and to get inspired by seeing the commitments other CODEPINK supporter are making. You can choose something from our checklist or create your own personal resolution. We'll remind you to keep up with your chosen commitment throughout the year and give you opportunities to act on them.

As we look forward to a year of fresh solutions, let us take a moment to reach out to the people of Gaza. As of this writing, over 350 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's horrific bombardment. Some 1,500 are wounded-many gravely-and they languish in unspeakable conditions without reliable electricity, medical equipment, supplies or adequate facilities. As American citizens, we are horrified to watch Israel's assault carried out with Apache helicopters made by American hands and munitions funded with tax dollars from the wages of American workers.

Please sign our letter to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice calling for an immediate US-backed ceasefire in Gaza today. We, as CODEPINK, will commit to continuing, with the incoming administration, to advocate for human rights, respect for international law and equality for the Palestinian people.

Let us know what part you want to play in making 2009 a year of solutions. Together, we can make 2009 the year that War is SO Over.

Wishing you a peaceful, joyful, active year,

Audrey, Dana, Deidra, Desiree, Farida, Gael, Gayle, Jean, Jodie, Liz, Lori, Lydia, Medea, Nancy, Paris, and Rae
