Sept 24 2005 National Anti-War Protest in Los Angeles From Iraq to New Orleans: Fund People's Needs, Not the War Machine!

Fifteen thousand progressive individuals and organizations in Los Angeles marched on September 24 to demand an immediate end to the war on Iraq and and the colonial occupation from Iraq to Palestine to Haiti and everywhere.

We also demanded real relief for Hurricane Katrina's victims.

Speakers including actor Martin Sheen and state Sen. Gloria Romero (D-Los Angeles) spoke against the Bush administration.

December 4, 2004- War is not a game!
CODEPINK LA joined the holiday shoppers on the Santa Monica Promenade in front of the TOYS R US encouraging parents and those buying gifts for little ones to purchase non-violent toys. They held up signs in protest and handed out flyers with suggestions for alternative gifts.January 14

November 1, 2004- Our banner drop on Nov. 1st was a success!
We were still setting up when a police car honked its support. We got the message that there's a whole army of Americans for ending this war...
Police showed up as night fell; our "Restore our Democracy. Fire Bush Nov 2" banner hung legally inside the railing. They first questioned our friends across with street with their own signs, then came over to hassle us. One cop was overheard saying to his supervisor, "they have a camera and lawyers with them."

Thanks to Steve for bringing his camera gear and Cynthia for being our lawyer, thanks to Sarah, Ellen, Linda, Maria and everyone else who made it out there. You are heroes, all!

The Election Day banner drop at Sepulveda and Palms went off at 7:30 am, and Cynthia from the Lawyers Guild kept the cops at bay until 9 am. Look for upcoming footage on la.indymedia.org.

Meanwhile, in OC seven CODEPINKer's instigated a successful banner drop Nov. 1 on the pedestrian overpass near Warner Ave in Huntington Beach. From 4:15 to 5:15 until darkness fell, the group drew overwhelming positive responses of honks, waves and thumbs up from banners facing both north- and south-bound traffic.

Several CHP motorcycle cops drove by, but none approached until the end of the hour when a CHP helicopter circled above for 10 minutes, followed by a CHP motorcycle cop who parked on the shoulder beneath us, shouting orders from his loudspeaker (none of which we could understand). He finally drove off. Thanks to Sarah for e-mailing the attorney's letter, which we had on hand, ready to use if necessary.

October 3, 2004-
In partnership with the Levantine Cultural Center, CODEPINK was proud to co-sponsor a concert by Angam AL-Rafidain, Iraqi Maqam and Chalgi Baghdadi Ensemble, last Sunday at the Hollywood Methodist Church. August 12, 2004-
CODEPINK was on the streets in Santa Monica to greet BUSH as he came into town to collect money from his cronies. Pink lined both sides of the street and two
of our trademark PINKSLIP banners were hung, demanding that BUSH bring our troops home now and letting BUSH know that come November he's fired. Check out mores pictures of the rally.

June 5
Last weekend, more than 5,000 protestors filled the streets of downtown LA in a spirited anti-occupation march. CODEPINK marched alongside an array of activists, proudly speaking truth to power.

March 20, 2004- Victims of War/Visions of Peace
CODEPINK was highly visible at the March 20th protest in Hollywood marking the one year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Using the theme, Victims of War and Visions of Peace, CODEPINK women marched down the streets with a funeral procession to mourn for the 572 troops and countless civilians lost to the unjust war. In an effort to inspire visions of peace CODEPINK passed out hundreds of pink flowers.

January 10, 2004-

CODEPINK made a ruckus at the LA Auto Show. CP women took over a Hummer, and refused to leave, making their point loud and clear. A protest was held outside with the Bus Riders Union and Global Exchange.


2003- Women can stop Schwarzenegger
CODEPINK joined by other women's groups staged in over 14 cities protests against A.S. In Santa Monica a reported 1,000 attended, other cities included, Sacramento, San Francisco, Berkeley, Santa Rosa...Brava for a fabulous show, the polls show we are having an effect, keep on.

2003- March to end the occupation
CODEPINK recently participated in a march to end the occupation in Hollywood. We decided it was time for Rumsfeld to get the slip! The crowed went wild as CODEPINK dishonorably discharged Rumsfeld. Stay tuned for more Rumsfeld action.

September 14, 2003- Sexual Misconduct is Not a Family Value
CODEPINK protested outside and inside the California Republican Convention where Arnold Schwarzenegger was the Special Guest Speaker at their luncheon, a Celebration of Republican Women's Leadership. CODEPINKer Lynette Kessler stood on a chair in the middle of Arnold's speech and unfurled a banner that read "Sexual Misconduct is Not a Family Value".

2003- Arnold:You're Terminated
On September 5th as Schwarzenegger opened his new
headquarters CODEPINK and other women?s groups
protested his record of misogynistic comments and acts of sexual harassment. CODEPINK delivered the candidate for governor a Pink Slip that read "Arnold You're Terminated".

2003- Thanks to everyone who came to the protest at KFI in Los Angeles--protests around the nation captured the interest of the media and the public, drawing attention to this very important issue.
