December 2, 2005 War Day 1,275 Freezing temperatures don't stop Vigil We stood in the freezing temperatures without a word of complaint this Friday night. Hard to believe a sleepy southern town like Washington DC could get this cold but it happens. It's really something to see the vigilers quietly and calmly standing by Walter Reed's front gate. There were more than a dozen of us. Those who come have a pretty good idea of why they are standing here. So do the many people driving by. Our presence reminds them of those inside. Maybe we generate a kind of warmth on a cold night. We'd rather not have to be here-would rather not have this war that has made casualties of these good young men and women. But as long as they had to go-we cannot forget them. We intend to be here to let them, and everyone passing by, know that we want them all home again. Bruce Wolf |
