In spite of local news warnings urging LA-area residents to stay indoors due to poor air quality from Che recent Southern California Wildfires, CODEPINK LA joined over 20,000 protestors for the LA Regional Peace Demonstration this Past Saturday to take over the streets of Downtown Los Angeles. What began as a rally at the intersection of Olympic and Broadway soon became a massive march to the Los Angeles federal building where protestors were able to view the CODEPINK "A Walk in Their Shoes" display and participate in a symbolic "Die-In" honoring all soldiers and civillians killed in the war. The protest, which was organized by the Oct. 27 Stop the War Coalition, a broad array of over 50 progressive, anti-war and social justice organizations, also featured speakers such as Martin Sheen of "The West Wing", Mike Farrell of "MASH", Mark Ruffalo of "Zodiac" and Ron Kovic, Vietnam vet and author of "Born on the Forth of July". As usual, CODEPINK brought our own brand of fun and spunk to the event, leading cheers, chants and even sing-alongs with all those around us! We had an amazing time letting the world know that Los Angeles is a proud city for peace!
