Remembering Iraq 11 Years Later: Then and Now!
Panel Discussion Aims To Drive Awareness of Historic Lawsuit Challenging Bush Era War Crimes
San Francisco, CA – CODEPINK: Women for Peace, a women-initiated
grassroots peace and social justice movement working to end U.S. funded
wars and occupations, Witness Iraq, a Comar Law project that seeks to
document and record testimony of those harmed by the 2003 US led war in
Iraq have partnered to host a panel discussion sponsored by the
Unitarian Universalist Peace and Justice Committee SF on March 19, 2014.
The panel, titled “Remembering Iraq 11 Years Later: Then and Now,”
aims to drive awareness of Saleh v. Bush, a historic lawsuit that
alleges the planning and waging of the Iraq War was a “crime of
aggression” as defined by the Nuremberg Trials in 1946.
A CODEPINK organizer and Iraqi refugee, Farah Muhsin Al Mousawi, will moderate the discussion. Panelists include:
- Inder Comar of Comar Law, a San Francisco attorney representing
Sundus Shaker Saleh, an Iraqi refugee and the lead plaintiff in the
class action lawsuit against key members of the George W. Bush
Administration (Saleh v. Bush, Case No. 3:13-cv-01124 JST (N.D. Cal.
Mar. 13, 2013)).
- Aaron Hughes, an Iraq War veteran, artist and activists who is
actively involved Warrior Writers Project, The Dirty Canteen, The
National Veterans Art Museum, Iraq Veterans Against the War, and The
Center for Artistic Activism

Zaid Faransso, an Iraqi refugee and former medical resident at Baghdad’s Medical City
The
event will be livestreamed on Causes.com/Justice4Sundus. Campaign
supporters are invited to participate in the discussion using the
hashtag #Justice4Sundus.
CODEPINK launched a petition on Causes.com to gather support for
Sundus Shaker Saleh and her complaint against George W. Bush, Richard
Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice and Colin
Powell. In January 2013, CODEPINK delivered over 7,000 petition
signatures to the United States District Court Northern District of
California in San Francisco. A hearing is set for April 3rd.

Richard B. Cheney, Donald H. Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell
and Paul Wolfowitz. In Saleh v. Bush, plaintiff Sundus Shaker Saleh
alleges that the Iraq War was a premeditated war against the Iraqi
people, the planning of which started in 1998. The war was not conducted
in self-defense, did not have the appropriate authorization by the
United Nations, and under international law constituted a “crime of
aggression” — a crime first set down at the Nuremberg Trials after World
War II.
