(San Francisco) On Tuesday, February 25, 2014, internet activists will hang a banner outside the RSA Conference at Moscone Center South.
The activists indicate that a deal was struck between the popular computer security firm RSA and the National Security Agency (NSA). RSA reportedly accepted $10 million from NSA to make Dual_EC_DRBG—an intentionally weakened random number generator—the default in its widely used BSAFE encryption toolkit.
Documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden show that the NSA created a formula for generating random numbers to create a "back door" in encryption products. RSA became a distributor of that formula by putting it into a software tool called BSAFE that is used on personal computers and other products.
