CODEPINK Activists Demand No War on Syria Outside White House As Obama Delivers Speech

What: Rally, light brigade and speech viewing party at the White House

When: 6:30pm-9:30pm

Washington, DC -- Following a full day of lobbying on Capitol Hill, at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, September 10, CODEPINK peace activists and allies will rally outside the White House during the President's speech at 7:00 pm regarding US military intervention in Syria. Activists will be in town from as far as Tennessee and California to join CODEPINK and demand “No War on Syria”. With large, creative visuals including a brigade of large light panels, the group will make its message loud and clear as Obama speaks to the nation.

At 5:30pm activists will gather to protest an impending strike on Syria outside the White House, accompanied by the Overpass Light Brigade, which will be displaying a message of, “No War On Syria!” on large light panels. At 7:00 pm, activists will watch Obama's speech projected on a 20 foot portable screen set up outside the White House.

Peace advocates from across the nation have joined CODEPINK at an outdoor 24/7 camp known as the “Peace Insurrection” outside of the Longworth House Building at the corners of Independence and New Jersey Avenues where they are spending 24 hours a day until the House votes on Syria. They also have an "office" at the cafeteria of the Rayburn building, where they will direct citizen lobbyists. They are on site at all times and always available for interviews.

“The turnout at our actions this week was amazing. We have Congresspeople from across the spectrum showing their support for no military intervention. At our vigil last night, Rep. Grayson (D-FL) even joined us to show his solidarity with our message for peace. We have a real chance to stop war here, and we need to be there in full strength on Tuesday,” said CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin.
