Activists Stage Die-in at Syrian Embassy to Shame Syrian Government for Massacring its own People

When: Friday, August 12, 2011 at 2 pm

Where: 2215 Wyoming Avenue Northwest, Washington D.C., DC 20008-3930

On, Friday August 12th at 2 pm, CODEPINK activists and friends from the Syrian-American community will be paying a visit to the Syrian Embassy to protest the regime's brutal murder of its own people. Demonstrators will stage a die-in in front of the embassy to represent all those peaceful protesters who have lost their lives in the pursuit of freedom and government reform.

“The shameless slaughter of Syrians civilians by their own government has been making headlines for months.” said CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin, “We call upon the Syrian embassy to demand its government stop this senseless violence and give the people of Syria the freedom that they seek.”

The number of civilians killed ranges from 1,000 to over 2,000 depending on reports. Despite the tremendous risks, protesters keep coming out again and again. “We are in awe of the courageous Syrians who continue to demonstrate for their freedom, and we stand in solidarity with them,” stated CODEPINK activist Tighe Barry.  Visuals will include: graveyard setup with tombstones and a large coffin, activists in all black lying “dead” on the ground wrapped in “blood” soaked sheets.
