Peacemakers Rally Against Christians United for Israel (CUFI)

July 20th, 2010

Bring “Love Thy Neighbor includes Palestinians” Message to CUFI Banquet at DC Convention Center

What: Rally
When: Wednesday, July 21, 6pm
Where: In front of the Convention Center (site of the CUFI Summit) at the Mount Vernon Place entrance

Description: Starting on July 20th, Christians United for Israel (CUFI) will host a summit to bring together policymakers, religious leaders, and other individuals from all across the U.S. in order to cultivate “Biblical and moral” Christian support for Israel's policies of oppression.

Peace activists, many of whom have spent time in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, will gather outside the Convention Center to denounce CUFI's embrace of Israel's immoral practices of occupation, apartheid, and colonization. As an alternative to these unjust policies, the peace activists will be calling for an equitable and just peace in Palestine/Israel.

“Religious people should be advocating love, diplomacy and peacemaking, not hatred and violence as Pastor Hagee does with his call for a pre-emptive military strike on Iran,” says Medea Benjamin of CODEPINK, one of the groups sponsoring the rally.
“No matter what your faith, you should not support Israel's policies of annexing East Jerusalem, constructing the apartheid wall in the West Bank, and laying siege to Gaza – or the U.S.'s unconditional support for these abhorrent practices,” says Imam Mahdi Bray, Executive Director for Muslim American Society for Freedom.
This rally is co-sponsored by several groups, including CODEPINK, Global Exchange, PeaceAction Montgomery and the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation.

There will be compelling visuals representing religious figures like Jesus Christ and Moses with a “Love Thy Neighbor” message.
