Religious Leaders Challenge Christians United for Israel (CUFI)

What: Interfaith Press Conference
When: Tuesday, July 20th, 9am
Where: In front of the Convention Center (site of the CUFI Summit) at the Mount Vernon Place entrance
Who: Father Jack Sullivan, a Maryknoll priest; Imam Mahdi Bray, Executive Director of Muslim American Society for Freedom; and yet to be announced leaders from the Jewish and Palestinian Christian communities.

Description: Starting on July 20th, Christians United for Israel (CUFI) will host a summit to bring together policymakers, religious leaders, and other individuals from all across the U.S. in order to cultivate “Biblical and moral” Christian support for Israel's policies of oppression.

Leaders from Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities will gather outside the Convention Center to denounce CUFI's embrace of Israel's immoral practices of occupation, apartheid, and colonization. “No matter what your faith, you should not support Israel's policies of annexing East Jerusalem, constructing the apartheid wall in the West Bank, and laying siege to Gaza – or the U.S.'s unconditional support for these abhorrent practices,” says Imam Mahdi Bray, Executive Director for Muslim American Society for Freedom.

The speakers will attempt to enter the summit to present Pastor John Hagee, founder of CUFI, with a certificate for an Olive Tree planted in Palestine on behalf of CUFI.
This press conference is co-sponsored by several groups, including CODEPINK, Global Exchange, and the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation. In addition to the interfaith speakers, there will be compelling visuals.
