NEW YORK -- Calling it a "major step forward" in relations between Iran and the United States, leading activists Medea Benjamin and Jodie Evans of CODEPINK Women for Peace -- along with more than 150 other U.S. peace group representatives -- met Wednesday afternoon with Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here following his appearance at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. |
| CODEPINK activists interrrupt Sarah Palin's RNC speech at side of the stage

Two activists of the women's peace group CODEPINK disrupted Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the Republican National Convention when they approached the stage where Palin was speaking, adjusted their clothes to reveal pink slips that read "Palin is not a woman's choice," stood there at the side of the stage for about a minute and yelled "Women say no to war!" and "Women need a vice-president for peace!" They also removed banners that read "Women need a peace vice-president." |

ST. PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS – For the past five days, the leading anti-war group CODEPINK made headlines from The Denver Post, Salon.com to the Washington Times with their vivacious, creative peace message at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
At this week's Republican National Convention in the Twin Cities, nearly 100 members of the women-initiated group will make more headlines with vibrant demonstrations, creative costumes, songs, banners and hard questions for delegates and politicians gathered there. |
| Arrested CODEPINK member released from jail, optimistic for further action

CODEPINK member Alicia Forrest, 24, arrested yesterday on her way to a rally here during the Democratic convention, was released from Denver City Jail at 9 p.m. Tuesday. While tired from the ordeal, she's optimistic for further CODEPINK actions and progress for the rest of the week. |

Before arresting a member of the women's peace group, CODEPINK, police officers here shoved the woman to the ground with a raised baton, left her on the ground in pain for several minutes, and when she began answering questions to reporters nearby, an officers pulled her roughly away by the elbows to arrest her, according to eyewitness accounts at a press conference held outside the jail. |
