Senator Durbin: Stop Funding War!

February 20, 2007
Chicago Area CODEPINK
Chicago Area, IL

Twenty women from Chicago Area CodePINK, Evanston Neighbors for Peace, and North Shore Coalition for Peace and Justice, were joined by Kathy Kelly of Voices to engage in a 3-pronged action targeting Sen. Durbin: a meeting with his staff, an outside supporting protest, and a resistance action, where four were arrested. We originally had an appointment for the entire group. But after an earlier peaceful occupation action in Sen. Durbin's office that resulted in arrests, his Chicago office instituted a "closed-door" policy, limiting the number of people allowed into the locked offices. Those of us "left behind" called up to the office in solidarity with those in the meeting, and we had urged dozens of friends to do the same. Supportive passersby also made calls in support. We appear to have had an impact: many found the office's voicemail was full or received a message about a "high volume of calls."
