CODEPINK added PINK to the red, white and blue in Philadelphia!

CODEPINK and Women Occupy had a blast at the Occupy National Gathering which took place in Philadelphia over the 4th of July weekend!

We planned for weeks, working with the National Gathering organizers, to host the first ever National Feminist General Assembly on July 1st. The turnout was amazing and everyone in attendance was engaged, and found inspiration in sharing values and their meanings of feminism and how it has affected their lives. This gathering was attended by feminists of all genders. View the livestream here: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/23709088

Earlier that day Lisa Savage, CP Maine coordinator, hosted an informative and well-attended workshop about the plight of women in Afghanistan today. People shared and learned about the current issues facing Afghan women and families. Watch the livestream: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/23703121

CODEPINK also hosted a fruitful "Beautiful Trouble" workshop. See https://codepink.myshopify.com/products/beautiful-trouble-a-tool-box-for-revolution for more info on this new book/toolbox for activists.

The workshop resulted in an organic team arising together to create powerful visuals and messages for several actions on the 4th of July. See: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/23724777

Another bi-product of this meeting was the birth of occupasties! Leave it to CODEPINK to give women space to make activism fun and excuse to take your shirt off on a crazy hot day!

Medea Benjamin hosted an Occupy Peace workshop at the gathering as well. We talked about how we can all work toward a war-free future. View the livestream here: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/23742952 We even had a spontaneous Die-in when some fighter jets flew over us at Independence Mall.

On the 4th we occupied the parade, created a stir at Independence Mall with our Revolution Now message, and led a series of marches against drones.

CODEPINK and Women Occupy showed up and created the container for shared learning, sisterhood, and beautiful trouble in the form of action, and even a little howling at the full moon! We made a lot of new friends and helped amplify women's voices in the Occupy Movement, while deepening our sense of commitment.
