Dear Activist,

Congress says NO! With the bipartisan leadership of Reps Barbara Lee (D-CA), Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Walter Jones (R-NC) and thousands of calls in favor, Congress passed H.Con. Res 105 on July 25th, by a vote of 370-40, which mandates that we cannot have a new war in Iraq without a Congressional vote.

Thank you to those of you who called your Congress members and helped make this landslide victory happen!

We have had all too many occasions to mourn. Over4400 U.S. lives, over 100,000 Iraqi lives, and $2 trillion later, we have learned again and again the heavy, enduring costs of war.

Please read this blog post by Farah Muhsin Al Mousawi, a young Iraqi woman and CODEPINK staffer who works also with the Civilian-Soldier Alliance. Military “solutions” are not the answer - in Iraq or anywhere.

CODEPINK will continue to keep a sharp eye on the situation in Iraq. Currently, about 800 U.S. troops are officially on the ground, U.S. drones are in the skies, and U.S. military “aid” is keeping the corrupt regime of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in power (for now).

War is over if you want it, and if you work for it. Thanks again for all you have done to stop the next war NOW.

Make Out Not War,

Alli, Anastasia, Ben, Farah, Holly, Jodie, Janet, Lisa, Medea, Nancy, Sophia, Tighe, and Tyra
