Dear Activist,

How much does the world spend on war? Today, Global Day of Action against Military Spending (GDAMS), the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's report revealed the tab for worldwide military spending in 2013 is an eye-popping $1.75 trillion. Even with some reductions after the end of the Iraq war, the United States is still “the big spender”, lavishing more on the military than the next 14 countries combined. This includes the most expensive air weapons systems ever, Lockheed Martin’s F-35 stealth fighter jet. The total Pentagon budget (which does not even include nuclear weapons) for 2014: $526+ billion.

This budget total doesn't include the secret Pentagon slush fund known as the Overseas Contingency Operations. As the National Priorities Project points out, “In 2014 [the OCO budget] totaled $85 billion in additional military spending ... and is not subject to funding caps or sequestration cuts.”

Around the US, people are taking action to cut military spending. Join an action, or create your own! Here’s some ideas:

We can’t eat weapons. Let’s speak out, with our sisters and brothers around the world, against military spending - and advocate to move the money for real needs, not war profiteers’ greed.

For war dollars home - worldwide,
