Activists Target Obama's Drone Policy at San Francisco Fundraising Event
  • Sunday, November 24th, 6pm to 7:30pm across from the SF JAZZ Center, 201 Franklin Street: an outdoor guerrilla outdoor screening of the films "Unmanned: America's Drone War" and "Wounds of Waziristan"
  • Monday, November 25th, 11:00am to 1:30pm: Assemble at Patricia's Green on Octavia Blvd and Hayes Street at 11 am. March to the SF Jazz Center at 11:30 am.
(San Francisco) President Barack Obama is scheduled to appear at a luncheon fundraiser at the new SF JAZZ Center in Hayes Valley on Monday, November 25, 2013.   Activists with CODEPINK, World Can't Wait and other community groups will stage two-days of protest against President Obama's drone policy. The activists state that Obama's drone policy is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians in Pakistan and Yemen, and since he has taken office deadly drone strikes have increased.

On October 22, Human Rights Watch issued a report on drone strikes in Yemen and Amnesty International issued another on drone strikes in Pakistan, which detail cases of civilian casualties and criticize the US government for considering itself above the rule of law and accountability. A third report, License to Kill, released by the Geneva-based group Al Karama, is much more damning of US policy. Al Karama asserts that the US drone war is a clear violation of international law. It calls for an end to extrajudicial executions and targeted killings; complete reparations to victims; and a resolution by the UN Human Rights Council opposing the US practice of extrajudicial executions.
