Will you fast one more day?

June 20, 2013

Dear Supporter,

Tomorrow at 10am in Yemen, family members of those illegally imprisoned in Guantanamo will join the CODEPINK Peace Delegation and activists from Human Rights groups in Yemen to fast and vigil in solidarity with the hunger strike at Guantanamo. Because of our visit with the US Ambassador in Sana'a, he has agreed to meet with these family members before Ramadan. This is huge. In the 12 years their family member has been in prison they have had no contact with someone from the US Government. Their connection has been through the Red Cross and in some cases attorneys.

We told them about the CODEPINK community who had also joined in solidarity and they asked us to send you their thanks. There were many tears of gratitude that others understood their suffering.

We have to escalate the pressure on Obama, June 26th is our next opportunity. We are hearing stories that some prisoners have very compromised health. Will you fast for one more day? Will you invite your friends to join you? Will you join us in DC and invite your friends to stand with you? Diane Wilson who will be on her 56th day of the hunger strike will be with us. Elliot Abrams from Veterans for Peace on his 40th day of a hunger strike will join us. Be inspired by their blogs.

We heard heartbreaking stories in Sana'a. On June 26th it will have been 33 days since Medea asked Obama during his speech to release the 86 cleared prisoners. We can't sit back, we must lean forward and save these lives on the brink.

Please join with us. Read more about our trip to Yemen
