Dear friend,

Yes, General Petraeus is taking over the Afghanistan war operations from General McChrystal after his disrespectful, frat-boyish comments made to Rolling Stone magazine. But the issue is not who is conducting the war, but the war itself. Unfortunately, Congress is poised to throw another $33 billion of our tax dollars at this old, worn militaristic disaster.

This is a critical moment to push your representative TODAY and demand they take action--ask tough questions, stop funding endless war! Tell them you want a new policy based on development and conflict resolution, not war (and tell them to join the Out of  Afghanistan Caucus.)

Speaking of jettisoning the old and ushering in the new, this week a rockin' team of CODEPINK activists at the US Social Forum in Detroit commemorated the death of the Hummer by burying a Hummer (goodbye gas-guzzling war machine, hello renewable energy!) at the world-famous Heidelberg Project.

Watch the video of our Hummer Burial being transformed into a giant flower pot and read Medea's piece on the long-awaited, gas-guzzler funeral. Now let's put Big Oil to rest by protesting offshore oil drilling at Hands Across the Sand actions at beaches around the country this Saturday. Print out and bring our handy flier, and sign up sheet to the action!

Joining hands for a green, peaceful planet,
Dana, Farida, Gael, Gayle, Joan, Jodie, Medea, Nancy, Rae, and Victoria

P.S. Thanks to everyone who came out last weekend on the Boycott BP Day of Action! We protested at a BP-owned station in LA, organized the Mermaid Survivor of the BP Oilspill Contingent in the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, brought the boycott into the World Nude Bike Day ride in Madison, and many more!
