Spicy Pink Recipe for "No War on Iran"
|

A Seymour
Hersh article in The New Yorker last week (July 7-14, 2008) reported
that in late 2007 eight members of Congress (Pelosi, Reid and 6 others,
both Democrats and Republicans) OK'd $400 million dollars for a major
escalation of covert operations against Iran.
Currently there are two bills demanding sanctions on Iran in the House
and Senate — H Con Resolution 362 and its companion bill in the Senate,
S 580 — that are picking up co-sponsors and moving toward a vote.
These resolutions would call on the president to stop all shipments of
refined petroleum products from reaching Iran. They also "demand"
that the President impose "stringent inspection requirements on all
persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains and cargo entering or departing
Iran." Analysts say that this would require a US naval blockade in
the Strait of Hormuz.
It all adds up to one huge bellyache. We can't stomach another war!
Join
the national call to action, July 19-21, to stop an attack and sanctions
on Iran!
Here's
what we've got cooking in response for these three days of coordinated
action:
|
Mild: Bring your pink
selves and the news about this threat of naval blockade – and
war – against Iran to the people! Click
here to join an already scheduled action in your community
(). Or, go in your hot pink to a street fair, a baseball game, a community
barbecue or other event that attracts a big crowd. Pink parasols get
attention and give you shade! Hold
a banner and pass out flyers to spread the message of "No
war on Iran!" Download
our No War on Iran sign to take with you to events. Bring
our petition and gather signatures. |
Medium: Call Congressman
Ackerman (NY- District 5), who sponsored this bill, at (202) 225-2601
and tell him why you oppose sanctions and a military attack on Iran
and encourage others to call! Organize a phone-a-thon
to invite people in your neighborhood to make calls to Congress, and/or
put a group together to visit your local Congressperson's district
office. |
Hot: Put together a delegation
to visit your mayor. Ask him or her to join the 38 (and counting!)
mayors nationwide who have signed on to the Resolution Opposing U.S.
Military Involvement in Iran. For a step-by-step guide to making this
a success, click
here.Turn out local media to cover this local resistance
to yet another war. |

your action (no matter what you choose to do, post
a report back to CODEPINK's national website.
